Dealing with the STRESS Pandemic

We all have “those” kinds of days. Days where nothing seems to go your way, and your stress level just inches higher and higher. The underlying pandemic existing in the world today is the stress pandemic. Do a quick google search and you can see the multitude of damaging effects that stress has on our bodies. This blog started as a Facebook post a few weeks ago when I was having a particularly stressful day. I decided that the topic was important enough to warrant a more in-depth look. Here is how it started…

“Today was a stressful/rough/frustrating day. My immediate thoughts were to go to my numbing go tos: ice cream, tv, stewing over my feelings, etc... but instead I went for a walk in the woods (yay for practicing what I preach- just like everyone else those numbing activities seem great in the moment, but I often feel worse after). After my walk I felt so much calmer and felt clarity for the decisions that had been stressing me. I recommend to my clients to create a list of things that they can do in a time of emotional turmoil or stress so they don’t have to figure out options when they are in that state.”

I highly recommend that you take a few minutes to create your own list. Each person’s list will be different because it should be specific to their needs. The important thing is that when you are having a stress filled day, you have it ready to go without having to put in a lot of thought. Make sure to include options that are quick, like a prayer or Pranic breathing when you only have a few minutes, not just options that are more time consuming like a walk or salt bath. It is nice to have a mix of options that will work for a variety of situations.

Some of my favorites include:

  • Walks

  • Meditation (click here for more information on Meditation on Twin Hearts – and a short version of this powerful meditation, scroll to #6)

  • Swimming

  • Pranic breathing

  • Listening to a favorite song

  • Salt baths (for more information and the recipe click here, scroll to #5)

  • Prayer

  • Cooking/Baking

Why don’t you give it a try and see if it brings you relief that you need on the occasional stress filled day. However, if you are overwhelmed or feel as though you are never able to move past the stress in your life, you may need some additional assistance.
